Please join Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains in sending thanks to Representative Diana DeGette for standing up for women's health.
As co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, DeGette has been a consistent leader for women’s reproductive health in the health care reform debate and she continues to fight for full access to reproductive healthcare.
Over the last several days, DeGette has voiced her opposition to efforts that restrict access to women’s reproductive health and has advocated for comprehensive reform that includes access to reproductive health care.
Actions include:
- DeGette spoke on the floor in opposition to the Stupak-Pitts Amendment: DeGette Floor Speech in Opposition to Stupak-Pitt
- DeGette said in a statement that the restrictions the amendment would place on a woman's right to choose "sets a terrible precedent and marks a significant step backwards."
- DeGette along with U.S. Rep. Louise M. Slaughter of New York (co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus), on November 7, issued the below joint statement following the vote on the House floor on the Stupak-Pitts amendment to the health care reform bill: “Placing onerous new restrictions on a woman’s right to choose sets a terrible precedent and marks a significant step backwards. This effort will effectively ban abortion coverage in all plans, both private and public – marking a significant scaling back of the options offered under existing laws. Such a terrible, last minute amendment to a critical, historic piece of legislation is a shame. This kind of outrageous interference in health care by the government marks a sad day in this struggle and will result in women across America losing the right to health care.”
As a health care provider, Planned Parenthood is committed to passing health care reform that will guarantee affordable, quality health care coverage for all, including access to comprehensive reproductive health care. Please take a moment to thank Rep. DeGette for her fight to protect women’s health.
